My name is Lainie Duro, and I have over 20 years of experience in teaching people about technology, particularly people who don’t think they can ever learn how to use computers. For the past 16 years, I have been homeschooling my children using a self-directed, interest-based educational model. My approach to education has been largely formed by the fact that, although I was a straight-A student in high school, I chose to not go to college to avoid the financial burden on myself and my mom—a single parent who struggled to provide for me and my six brothers and sisters. Instead, I discovered a way around formal education by pursuing my interests, seeking learning opportunities whenever possible, and keeping my mind open to new experiences. Certainly, there was also a great deal of luck involved, as well as unearned privilege. I feel very strongly connected to the concept of “each one teach one” and community development through educational opportunity and lifelong learning.
My goal is to build a network of educators of all types to provide people with a variety of solutions for their personal and professional educational needs.
Our services to start include one-on-one tutoring for those who are new to technology, as well as curriculum planning for children and adults. If you are an adult who would like to take advantage of any of the wide variety of free, online, educational opportunities available to you, we can help you create a plan, and will follow up with you to ensure you are working that plan (because we know how easy it is to put yourself and your goals behind those of the numerous people you are probably caring for.) We will also be setting up some workshops and seminars for hands-on group learning.
Please share this page with people you know who are interested in homeschooling, unschooling, lifelong learning, and education hacking FOR ALL AGES. Please contact me if you feel we can help you achieve your educational goals.
